The department welcomes 6 students for our 2017 NSF REU in Chemistry program who will be involved in an intensive hands-on 10-week research program. Highlights

Tolbert Group publishes significant insights in Rules of RNA specificity of hnRNP A1

The Tolbert Group earlier this year contributed significant insights into the combinatiorial factors that determine how hnRNP A1 identifies functional binding sites in vivo. Their work was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) earlier this year. Nature Communications Publishes Work from Crespo Group

Collaborative work from the Crespo Group titled “The origin of Efficient Triplet State Population in Sulfur-Substituted Nucleobases” was recently published in Nature Communications. This work is part of an international, multi-group collaboration between the Crespo Group and theoretical chemists from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain and the University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria.

 

 

Crespo Group – Research Highlighted by the News Media

The Crespo Research Group’s recently published work, Unintended Consequences of Expanding the Genetic Alphabet (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2016, 138, 11447), has been recently highlighted in Nature’s Research Highlights, the American Chemical Society Office of Public Affairs’ Weekly Press PACs, and Phys.org among other news media.Graduate student Marvin Pollum and undergraduate student Brennan Ashwood led the investigation, whereas Minh Lam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Case Western Reserve and Steffen Jockusch, Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Chemistry at Columbia University also contributed to the research effort.
