A Message from Anna C.S. Samia
Chair of the Chemistry Department
Case Western Reserve University
The CWRU Department of Chemistry is expanding the frontiers of molecular and materials research, while educating students and the next generation of scientists. With expertise in the traditional fields of chemistry and outstanding programs in chemical biology, materials chemistry, molecular biophysics, theoretical chemistry, and nanoscale science, we attract talented students and researchers from around the globe. Faculty and students in the department study the biomedical applications of novel molecular probes, polymers, and nanoparticles; materials for hypersonic flight; composites for solar cells and batteries; the interplay of biomarkers in eye and cancer diseases; the structural biology of RNA; and new theoretical descriptions of photoexcited molecules, among many other topics. Departmental research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and various private foundations.
We are committed to high-quality instruction and student success through an integrated program of academics, laboratory experiences, and cutting edge research.
CWRU is in the heart of Cleveland’s cultural center, the University Circle, in the midst of one of the largest concentrations of research hospitals in the nation. Additionally, our Department interacts with companies such as Lubrizol, Sherwin Williams, Owens Corning, PPG Industries, and a number of local companies and startups. These interactions create a dynamic environment for innovation and discovery and foster the professional development of our students. Please browse our website and feel free to contact us with inquiries.
Welcome and thank you for visiting.
