Graduate Student Spotlight: Anthony Kornokovich

We are pleased to highlight Anthony Kornokovich, a PhD student in Chemistry, whose research is contributing to the development of new lithium salts and ionic liquids designed to improve the safety and performance of rechargeable batteries.

Working with Dr. John Protasiewicz, Anthony’s research focuses on the synthesis of unconventional lithium phosphonate salts and related materials, with an emphasis on flame retardant additives, room temperature ionic liquids, and advanced electrolyte design for lithium ion batteries. His work aims to address important challenges in electrochemical safety by developing new compounds with strong potential for energy storage applications.

Anthony’s recent accomplishments include publications in Inorganic Chemistry, including “Dealkylation as a Strategy to Synthesize Unconventional Lithium Salts from ortho-Phenyl-phosphonate-boranes” and “Acid-Catalyzed Dehydrocoupling of Phosphines.” His work has also contributed to an IP filing on flame retardant additives containing lithium phosphonate salts with enhanced safety and performance in rechargeable batteries, completed in collaboration with UL Research Institutes.

We are proud to recognize Anthony for his dedication to research excellence and his contributions to innovation in inorganic chemistry and battery materials.
