Graduate Student Spotlight: Siyang Liu
We are pleased to highlight Siyang Liu, a fifth-year PhD student in Chemistry, whose research is contributing to a deeper understanding of lipid oxidation products and their role in severe asthma.
Working with Dr. Robert Salomon, Siyang’s research explores the chemical mechanisms and biological significance of oxidized lipids, with a particular focus on leukotriene-like agonists and their connection to asthma. His work helps illuminate how radical-induced lipid oxidation can generate bioactive compounds relevant to inflammatory disease and therapeutic research.
Siyang’s recent accomplishments include publication of “Radical-induced Lipid Oxidation Produces a Torrent of Leukotriene-like Agonists in Severe Asthma” in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in January 2026. He was also recognized with the Graduate Teaching Award and the Dunbar/Armentrout Graduate Student Travel Fellowship from the Department of Chemistry in 2025. In addition, Siyang was selected as a student speaker at the 2026 AAPS Summer Scientific Forum, where he presented his research and engaged with current industry and academic perspectives on therapeutic modalities, analytical technologies, and regulatory developments.
We are proud to recognize Siyang for his dedication to research excellence, teaching, and professional engagement at the intersection of chemistry and human health.
