Growing up in Lares, a rural town of Puerto Rico, Carlos Crespo-Hernández knew he loved science but was unsure how to turn that passion into a career. But after teaching in K-12 schools in Puerto Rico as part of a National Science Foundation grant, he realized he could merge the two areas he loved—science and teaching—in higher education. Now a faculty member at CWRU, Crespo-Hernández will be honored for his teaching efforts with a 2016 John S. Diekhoff Award for Graduate Teaching.
